Santa Irene Club de Vela Newsletter - 8th December 2010
It´s time to look at our year, it,s been the best ever; not perhaps for the weather but for how the Club has grown. It´s not only the membership but also in boats. New boats such as “Petit Brise”, a French Sailing Dinghy which Steve built, Trevor´s “Tideway”, another beautiful wooden boat, Michael´s “Devon Yawl” with her roomy cockpit. The fibre glass Dinghies: The “ Lark”, a “420”, a “ Wayfarer”, the 17 ft dinghy from Germany, all adding to our Dinghy Fleet.
A big suprise for me is the increase in the sailing Cruisers: Jim´s 18 ft “Pelwist” has been with us for a few years but now we have Ian´s 25 ft “Blitzen”, Sue´s 26 ft “Magregor”, Rodolfo´s 34 ft “Dicha” a classic racing yacht. Personally, I´m looking forward to seeing our 18 ft micro tonner on the water, we have had it for a few years, in need of a major refit, now, Stan has taken on the job, we look forward to a Champagne launching in the new year.
One highlight of the year was being involved in the “IberCaja” bank Regatta for Cruisers; Ian and his crew were racing aboard “Blitzen” and finished 2nd in class C, to receive a Trophy. It was a fun Regatta, well organized. IberCaja, the Port Authority, and Club Guarrucha did a good job.
An another event which many of us attended was the “Extreme 40” Catamaran Regatta in Almería Port, we look forward to next years event. We have welcomed the “Tall Ships” when they have visited Garrucha harbour to introduce our selves.
Recently, we have been talking to the “Jubilee Sailing Trust”. we hope, one day we will see their Tall Ships: “Lord Nelson” and “Tenacious” anchored in our waters.
Am I disappointed with any thing? Where are the Youngsters! We have dinghies waiting to go on the water; maybe it will happen next year.
Thanks to our friends at the “Rincón del Puerto”, our Club House, for their good humour, patience and service.
We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year.
I hope you will visit us at Garrucha Marina any weekend, 11 am onwards.
Take care.
