Santa Irene Club de Vela Newsletter - 30th December 2008
I´ve been looking at the weather forecast for the New Year. It´s simple, all you do is open up the Computer, type in "sailrway.com" up comes Santa Irene, click into Weather, choose Mojacár, Garrucha or Carboneras and you have it. I can tell you it´s looks good and I am looking forward to it.
At the start of this New Year, I would like to say: a Big Tank you to the "Founding Grand Fathers" who are still with us. The first to come along was Vic and he had a Boat!! a Dart Catamaran which he had been sailing off the Playa el Palmeral. Possibly, the only sail you would have seen on the water in 2002, apart from our Oppies. Then along came George and Frank...did they see that Catamaran sail on the water? Within a week, George a Hobie Cat sailor, had bought a new "Hobie 16". Frank, who had a Classic Yacht, back in the U.K but also sailed a "GP.14" made up a Trio of experienced Sailors. To add "Sea miles" to the Trio, Grand-dad Terry arrived, as a young man, he had been sailing around the World in a "Tramp Steamer" and visited all the Oceans of the World.
All this happened within a few months of 2003. We have come a long way since then, my Thanks to all the members of the Club and friends who have helped us on our way. A Club House is still on the Horizon, in the meantime, we will continue to sail from the Playa del Cantal and the Slipway at Garrucha. I have just received my Yachts &Yachting magazine, on the Front cover it says:" Don´t give up! there´s always a plan B...
If you have any interest in wanting to sail, Call me! don´t be afraid just call me..... Is that the title of the Song? I´m sure Jeffers will tell me.
Happy New Year
Take care
