Back home in Mojacár, our Hobie Cats are sailing of the Playa del Cantal on Friday afternoon. I'm looking forward to the autumn, when we could have 6 or 7 Cats sailing, we should be thinking of a Regatta for the Cats and inviting our friends from Mar Menor, or where ever.
The Monohull fleet is growing at Garrucha slipway, 2 more "Pastinaca"sailing dinghies have been bought by new members. I bought a "Pastinaca" back in 2002 as a training boat, so on a good day expect to see the 3 of them sailing at Garrucha. By the time you read this we may have our "Osprey" on the water, it's a high performance trapeze racing dinghy- 17ft 6ins with a crew of 2 or 3, I'm looking forward to it. However, we do need to establish a "Class" within the Club. Maybe the single handed Lasers, 420 or the Snipe, all of them sailed by other clubs within Andalucia- no I haven't forgotten the Oppies.
Over at the Cuevas Canal (lake) we are growing too. Last Saturday, we had on the water: Oppies, Topper, Mirror, Europe and Cadet. I just wish we could get the Pastinaca sailing there, but we have no slipway, it's a problem to be solved. Come and visit us on Saturday's, perhaps you can help us solve it.
Last month it was Cowes week, with about 1000 boats involved. Had I been there, I would have been looking for a crewing job on the S.B.3 sports boat. The "Hurdler" Colin Jackson was there, so was "Hop-Skip-Jump" Jonathan Edwards, crewing on S.B3´s. Too old for there own Sports they want to join ours! Good look to them.
Come and talk to us and get involved.
Hobie Victor is on 950529399.
Take care

That was the Olympic Games – that was. 6 Medals in the sport of sailing, Top Nation once again with 4 of them Gold, I silver and one Bronze. There will be some pressure on them at the next Games 2012, when they will be sailing in their own "Backyard "at Weymouth and Portland. I will have lots more to tell you when I have had a chat to them.
Some thing that wasn´t on T.V was the "Volvo World Youth Sailing Championships "the venue was Arhus, Denmark. Our young sailors won the Trophy with a day to spare. Over in Poland, Hannah Mills and Katrina Hughes, from Cardiff, won "Gold" to become the women´s "470" junior World Champions.
It would seem the R.Y.A coaching system in the U.K is doing a good job, bringing on the youngsters that show talent. Our Nick Berrich has been recruited to help coach the youngsters of the Welsh National Squad.
What a pity the youth of our area seem to have so little interest in the sport of sailing particularly with the Mediterranean on our door-step.
Now, to the Hobie Catamarans of Santa Irene, they have been sailing from the Playa del Cantal on Friday afternoons. I´m looking forward to the autumn, we could have all 5 Cats on the water and the possibility of nº6 when Craig and Amanda return from the U.K in October; we look forward to having them back with us.
Sunday morning has seen the Mono hulls sailing from the Garrucha Slipway. Last Sunday I was more than happy to meet José, who has just bought a "Pastinaca" sailing dinghy, a good starter boat, built in San Javier (Murcia). New members Bob and Pam also have one and I bought mine in 2002 as a training boat, so expect to see all 3 of us on the water soon.
Remember if you want a quiet day out come and visit us, Saturday´s at the Cuevas Canal (Lake). Last week we had the Oppies, Cadet, Mirror, Topper, I hope this week we will add the Byte and Europe. You can see all happening!!
Take care
