Santa Irene Club de Vela Newsletter - 16th February 2006
How was it, it was dry on Saturday – dry on Monday, but rained all day Sunday the 5th February, the day of our Boat Show and BBQ. About a dozen of us sat in the Trufi Bar, our local, watching the rain, discussing the future and it’s going to get better!
We should have a cabin on the playa this year, even if it’s
only a seasonal one. Don’t ask me why we cannot get a permanent one, but
I’m going to tell you – it would seem we need to get two Ministries
and the Ayuntamiento to agree to it – now if anyone knows a short cut,
we would be pleased to hear from you. Having said that, one day it will happen,
a Club House, a Dinghy park, a Slipway, a Boat Show here in Mojacar –
now we are talking “Nautical Tourism”. Is anyone listening!
Well last week Salvador was on Spanish local radio and TV, so - quien sabe?
Let me tell you more about Salvador’s “Patin” catamaran, it’s 5.6m long, only 1.6m beam, mast height 6.8m, sail area 12.6m² and a weight of only 98kilos, Oh! And remember no rudder – you must come and see it – it’s unique.
One day we will have a meeting for catamarans and, you are invited. In the future we’ll be laying a course whenever its possible, we need to get racing, and there will also be the occasional mini cruise with the Drascombe keeping an eye on you.
Down in the Southern Ocean, the Big Boys are breaking records every day. In the Volvo race, ABN Amro Two, did an amazing 563 mile run in 24hours, which means their average speed was just under 24knots, I wonder what their top speed was?
Now back to Mojacar and our Boat Show, we will try again on Sunday 26th February, make a note of it, Boat Show and BBQ, at the Playa del Cantal, opposite Mr UK, from lunch-time onwards.
Today it’s dry and the sun is shining – so hope
to bring you some sailing news next time.
Take Care
