Santa Irene Club de Vela Newsletter - 9th June 2010
I´m feeling good, it´s June and the start of our 9th year with Saturday and Sunday sailing. I was on the water with Michael and the “Wayfarer” along with “Casi Casi”, “Dos amigos”, the “Magreger 26”. Then on Sunday, we were joined by Lyndon and the “Catapult Catamaran” plus “Devon Yawl” etc...
I was ashore on Sunday rigging my “Kittiwake” with my young helpmates Brooke and Drew, we will be sailing her next week. Sailing is a Sport for all ages; Why don´t we see more Families involved ?
The UK is top Nation in the World in the sport of Dinghy Sailing. British sailors have recently Won 10 medals from the the Princess Sofia sailing “World Cup Event” at Palma, Spain and the “Olympic Sailing Week” in Hyeres in France. The Royal Yachting Ass. in an effort to keep us at the top of the Sport are offering “Junior Membership” to Children age 8 to 11 year olds, the fee is only 5 pounds annually. They will receive an Activity book called “Go sailing” access to their own RYA website, plus a quarterly newsletter packed with fun stories and illustrations. “ Youth membership” is available for the 12 to 17 year olds; they would receive regular email news letters, competitions and importantly advice on making a “Career” in sailing, the annual fee 14 pounds. This is such a good deal, I phoned them to confirm it; if you want to know more call me.
I hope there is a repeat of the television series “The Boats that built Britain”on BBC TV. I didn´t see them all, let me know if hear any thing.

Sailing News Sol Times - 2nd June 2010
“Here we are again, happy as can be”, I´ve just re rigged my “Kittiwake”. After years of being ashore, she is ready to take to the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
I fell in love with the “Kittiwake” at the Southampton Millenium Boat Show. She is half scale of a “Falmouth Quay Punt” from about 1890. Rigged as a Gaff rigged Yawl with 2 head sails, Main and Missen with a Bowsprit and Bumpkin, should I add a Top´sl ? I´m thinking about it.
Apart from our Classic and racing dinghies a new 17 ft 6 in. dinghy has arrived from Düsseldorf, Germany. The owner Bernard will be back with us in September as a new member. The dinghy looks good and is using an electric Outboard engine which is food for though, it´s clean, quiet and starts first time.
More good news of our Sailing Cruisers , Rodolfo will be adding his 10.5 metre Classic to the fleet this week when he takes up a berth on the New Marina. Rodolfo opened his Book Shop in Vera a few months ago, selling nautical books etc.... in English and Spanish. The shop is called “Nobel”, well worth a visit.
